I have not said anything about this before now, as I was halfway expecting the dream to evaporate or something to happen to cancel the event. It is happening, and we are having our technical rehearsals. I am overwhelmed with magnitude of this historical moment in pet grooming history. Not only is it the first publicly advertised grooming competition in Hong Kong, put on by the Hong Kong Professional Groomers Association and sponsored by Show Seasons Animal Products, it is also the first grooming competition being judged by webcam in another country. I know the term "awesome" is overworked, but friends, THIS IS AWESOME!
Yesterday, I watched a Westie not standing still on a grooming table in HONG KONG. Regardless of what side of the globe we are on, dog hair is dog hair, and Westies don't stand still. It was simply amazing to be sitting at my desk in Tucson, Arizona, USA and find myself chatting in real time with a colleague in Hong Kong.
Grooming styles in Hong Kong are rather different from what we see in grooming competitions in the U.S. Here is a picture of a Hong Kong Poodle style:
Judging this contest is going to be so challenging to my ideas of "proper" styles and profiles. It promises to be an adventure I will never forget. I am so honored and so delighted by this fabulous opportunity. And to think, it's happening in MY fabulous life!

Wow what a challenge but I love seeing something so different and not the norm. Thanks for sharing and let us know how it turns out i.e. pics and winners.
ReplyDeleteHow neat! I love viewing the japanese grooming sites to see their styles, and I must say I am in love with that maltese you've pictured! Congratulations on being chosen to judge such an event, and thanks for sharing with all of us. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, this must be so exciting!!! I am just a baby groomer... Look at all the amazing things that can happen! Those pictures are so cute.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Canadian Groomer and I have fell in love with these styles. Offering something new for my clients (and allows me to be more creative) is an exciteing opportunity. Anyone know where I can find instructions for these adorable styles?
