A BERRY COOL SANTA

Cool Santa

OK, I know I said I would keep this blog grooming related and professional, but I have a personal need today that far outweighs my professional drive.

This is the very famous El Gringo, my bichon. Last Christmas morning, I woke up to find the precious one bleeding to death on my bedroom floor. A rush to the emergency room and $1200 later, and my special, special little guy was gone. Apparently he suffered from undiagnosed autoimmune hemolytic anemia and a gastric upset started the bleeding which could not be stopped.

El Gringo was a famous guy on the internet, often writing in his own voice and delighting people around the globe. When he died, that creative voice died, and I lost way more than a dog, a buddy, a relationship, I lost that voice. Oh how I miss that!

Now I am facing the first anniversary on this XMas morning. I cannot describe how I dread the day. The deja vu is unbearable. A year later and I have not recovered and finished grieving for this loss. How bad is that! I have not been able to put up any decorations because even the thought of opening those boxes takes me back to the death scene.

Sorry for the morbidity, perhaps posting this tribute and personal wailing will help me GET OVER IT ALREADY. Don't look too close at the grooming. This was Dec. 2001. I've come a long way, and my bichon grooming was not bad then. As with many professional groomers, my own dogs often get the cursory once over rather than the full detailed grooming. Other people's pets get the best of me!

Unmerrily yours,
BBird

  1. I know this is really late, but I feel for your lost. I have been reading your blogs and I could tell El Gringo is very special to you. My condolences.

I did experience the lost of my own baby Drako, just 3 year old. I am still grieving.

But, I just wanted to let you know that I like your blogs. Its not boring. And, you are so generous on your grooming tips I am looking into getting another bichon too and I am just soaking all the tips that you generously share.

I hope you would write a book about living with your bichons as a groomer and just share the fun you have with them.

  2. Aww, what a lovely message. Thank you for your kind words. I still deeply miss my Gringo buddy. He was a heart dog, for sure. When I am traveling by plane, he "comes to me" when I get nervous about turbulence. I hate airplane turbulence, and I get scared. A vision of Gringo appears over my left shoulder and he gives me his special little Bichon "smile" as if to say, "It's okay, Mamacita, it's okay."

I now have Diva and Belle, my girls. I need to update and post some current pictures, not to mention my latest tips. Thanks for your encouragement!
