THE BICHON CREST

The arched neck of the bichon is an important element in the breed standard. In the show trim, the back of the neck is left full and slopes from the withers to the top of the head. This is called the crest. Balance wise, the crest is necessary to support the full head. Without the crest, the round head can look like a melon stuck on the top of the dog.

Here is Daisy looking at the crest and back of her head.

Behind ear & Crest

This is a pet trim. It is not an excessive amount of crest. It can be maintained with little difficulty. The crest is important to the bichon "look" If it gets too matted, you can clip it off and let it grow back.
