BICHON HEAD - THE BACKSIDE

Is the bichon head really a pumpkin head? A basketball head? Not exactly. This is one of the most common misconceptions about the correct head. From the front we are looking at this:
Bichon full face

It is very much a circle. Under the chin it looks like this:
Under chin - Bichon

Straight across, and very deep to the throat. Now wait! Let's study this just a minute. Don't go rushing off to the next picture because this is a little boring. This is a critical part of scissoring a correct bichon head. If you don't scissor all the way back to the throat, you will have a TURTLE. See how you can see Daisy's pink skin at the throat? Sometimes I use a #4f blade there.

Here's another view that we don't often see pictured. This part can give you fits! What do you do BEHIND the head and at the back of the ears? Here's what it looks like:
Behind ear & Crest

Here is another way to look at it, with my finger in the indentation that I have scissored behind the ear and by the neck.

And here is the line along the bottom of the jaw.
Bichon Jaw line

In this shot, you can really see how it is scissored from the jaw line curving upward behind the ear. That line is scissored right AT the ear leather. Be careful, please!

Here is the other side.

This head was created using Arius-Eickert 8" curved shears, the Fang II. I sell the shears. Contact me at petpals@dakotacom.net if interested. When I have another person to take photos, I will redo this with shots of the placement of the shears. I hope this gives you a little more insight into creating a nice bichon head.
