THE BICHON "LOOK"

Here is a good example of how much of a difference can be achieved by simply adjusting the ears on a pet bichon groom.

IN LIKE A POODLE...
Comes in as a Poodle...
OUT LIKE A BICHON!
Goes out as a Bichon!

Tahoe is a 14 year old Bichon Frise that just moved to Tucson from California. He had quickly become dirty (hey, we live in the Desert), and they called desperately seeking a grooming. They had spotted my ad in the phone directory that said I specialized in Poodles and Bichons.

The previous groomer had obviously not done a strickly Poodle head. I was quite happy to see that the topknot had not been "cut out" over the ears. That can take forEVER to grow back in properly. The only thing that was not quite bichonly was leaving the ears long. If you shape your Bichon heads from under the chin upward (see previous blogs), you will quickly get over this inhibition. I know it's hard to think of taking those ears short and tighter. But you can see here how that little difference in grooming made a bigggg difference to the "look".

Of course, I discussed this change in grooming with the owners as a part of my grooming agreement. I wanted to make sure they were not attached to those poodley ears. They gave me the go ahead and were totally delighted with the outcome. When I hit them with the $45.00 ticket for the grooming, their response was, "And worth every penny!" I like that attitude!

This head was shaped with a Arius-Eickert Fang II 8" curved shear. The eyes and the Bichon "ledge" in front of the eyes were detailed with the Arius-Eickert Proline 5.5" curved scissor. Both can be viewed and purchased at the BBird Shopping Cart. Shop with a groomer and support the GroomBlog!

  1. Wow 14 years old? You'd never be able to tell!

Sorry to say, I don't like this groom. I think his head should have been cut rounder.
