Shih Tzu Grooming - Here's Lola!

This adorable little Shih Tzu was looking for a new groomer after the previous establishment shaved the dog without any warning to the customer. Lola's owner says she combs the dog daily, and I believed her, as there was not a single tangle.

What seems to have happened is that the pet owner "found" a groomer at a corporate salon who would do a scissored trim with topknot. On the next visit, however, that groomer was not there, and without any conversation with the client, the dog was handed off to another groomer who shaved the dog. This was a customer relations faux paw. A fatal error. They lost the customer for good. I gained.

Here's the bottom line: If there is a change in the grooming agreement - about what is going to be done to the dog - the customer needs to be in on it. If nothing is said, the customer is going to assume that they will get what was done last time. If there is a change in groomers, the agreement about the styling should be reviewed. The fastest way to lose a client is for them to expect one thing and get another. Especially when it involves a clip down or shave.

This was not a difficult groom, it took maybe 20 minutes. It was accomplished using the Laube Speed Feed with the #6 snap-on comb over the body and sculpting the shape. The teddy bear feet were trimmed and the legs were scissored. The face was shaped using a small curved scissor.

How did I get the topknot to stand up like that? It's a double topknot, with the front from the corner of the eyes to in front of the ears in one band, and the occiput forward to the other piece banded separately. Then the two pieces are banded together and it makes a nice firm topknot. The pink barrett belongs to Lola, as her mother is a cancer survivor and they both wear (lots of) pink. Lola was a gift to help her mommy go through chemotherapy. Say, "awww!"
